MSW incineration
Dear receipients od dioxin-list!
I would like to ask you for some help on municipal waste incineration.
Because we have no national strategy of banning chlorine products, there is
a big possibilitie that PVC and other chlorinated products will be burned in
the MSW Incinerators.
Slovenian strategy for toxic and municipal waste incineration is based on
incineration in old cement kilns and in building new incinerators. There is
no disposal for incinerator residues available at the time. There are two
cement kils, which already burns hazardous waste (also from abroad) and two
smaller incinerators without special input control (one in pesticide factory
PINUS and the other is from the second biggest pharmaceutic factory LEK in
Lendava). There are already three places known for next incinerators in
Slovenia (Kidricevo, Lendava, Domzale).
The legal procedure for the last one has been stopped because of the
environmentalists oposition. Nobody considered chlorine-connected problems
from the lobby side.
In Slovenia we have a producer of chlorine (about 9.590 tons/1994 chlorine,
831 tons of liquid Chlorine, 18044 tons of HCl acid). Chlorinated pesticides
are wide used (f.e. 2,4 - D). Some never registered pesticides in USA were
found in Slovenia (f.e. nuarimol). PVC is going to overtake the main part of
the plastic market.
Next actions could be well organized with recent scientific data - so, I
would like to ask you if you can help us with further informations on this
(incineration) issue.
Any information (list, specialized on incineration, data on incineration,
waste-to-energy,...) is appriceated.
With best regards,
Albin Keuc
