Referendum about MSW incinerator in Belgium.
Hello, everybody !
A new 235 tonne/year MSW incinerator project in Belgium will be the subject
of a referendum by which the inhabitants of Ciney, Belgium will be asked
whther they accept or refuse that incinerator. Ciney is a small city of
about 13,000 people situated roughly 80 km SSE of Brussels, Belgium.
Referendum will take place on October 13, 1996. Belgian law requires that
participation must reach at least 40% of number of voters to be valid. But
the result of the vote is not compelling for local politicians.
However, I am convinced that from a political standpoint, they cannot afford
to disregard the result.
I guess that such a referendum is a world premiere ? Right ?
