Discussion on battle of the experts
Carol Meeds' last posting brings up a point
that I have been having an interest discussion about.
It seems there is relative agreement that part
of the problem that creates the dioxin
problem is lack of control over corporations.
As an off-shoot of the that problem,
it seems that may techniques for addressing
the dioxin problem run into the problem of
the "battle of the experts." Basically, as it
now stands, polluters can always get someone
with a Ph.D. to claim that company
x is not really polluting or worse yet,
company x's pollution is not really
bad for you.
Aside from having the expert eat some of
the "not bad" pollution on the witness stand
or while giving congressional testimony, how
can we deal with this battle of the experts problem.
Any thoughts?
