Dusseldorf Fire

Many of you will recall a previous posting to this list that stated “few fire
experts now doubt” that PVC was responsible for the Dusseldorf airport
disaster. That posting was made within days of the fire, and well before
careful examination. The list of doubting fire experts appears to be
growing.

Prof. Achilles, acknowledged internationally as an expert in Fire Protection,
and formerly head of the fire brigade in Frankfurt, stated on July 1,:

“Presently available results have shown that it is not PVC which is
responsible for the fire in Dusseldorf, but insulating materials which had
been used in building the air ducts. In fact, huge lack of preventive
protection against fire and of effective supervision of the work being done
is the cause of the fire. PVC does not sustain fire, it is intrisically
very poorly inflammable and it is an excellent building material, which is
used in huge amounts in building. That is the reason why I can not agree
with the present hysteria."

I think there is quite a bit more to this fire than has been told so far.
