Chlorine in DC's water supply
Members of the list,
I read in the Washington Post today (Water to Get An Increase In Chlorine A1,
July 9, 1996) that extra chlorine will be added to the water in two treatment
plants in Washington, DC in an effort to kill bacteria in the city's pipes.
According to the article, the dose will be 60 percent higher than usual.
The article also states that the extra chlorine will not harm people
(according to EPA toxicologists and the American Water Works Association).
Is this true? If the extra chlorine will kill fish in aquariums, why won't
it cause health problems for humans?
Thanks.
Chuck
