Kenaf & crop replacement
I have appreciated the greatly increased traffic on the list lately.
Although it appears that some members of the list like to sharpen their
claws on each other from time to time, the overall level of discussion has
been pretty good.
I realize that this is a list devoted to dioxin issues, but not all of the
ancillary issues are truly extraneous. Clearly the introduction of
kenaf-based pulp and paper is a plus in reducing dioxin production, and I am
glad that someone brought it up. One additional comment on kenaf was along
the lines of asking which current crops will be phased out to make room for
kenaf.
Is the implication here that planting kenaf will remove bread from the tables
of grain-eaters by supplanting wheat or rye, or is the writer presuming that
current producers of grain or trees suffer some loss by switching to selling
kenaf? I assume that such a switch would occur only if it were profitable to
do so. Am I missing something?
I apologize if I've gotten behind the thread on this issue, my first copy of
this message was misaddressed.
I further realize the importance of not repetively harping on the same point,
ad nauseum, no matter what the actual current discussion issue is. After
all, that gets pretty darn dull for everybody else.
