EPA did a study on landfill gasses. They are roughly 49% methane,
49% CO and the other 2% is over 100 other constituents. The draft
report, written around 1989 was very condeming of the potential
health hazards from gasses from landfills, but did not
specifically comment on dioxins.
I can't find my copy of the report. It was done out of Research
Triangle. (Susan Thornton??) Write back if you want me to
continue to look for it.
Typically, flares are lit at discrete flaring wells and are
supposed to be lit most of the time.
