Wake-Up Call for Dioxin Activists:
P&P Industry on the Move...on the Internet
=================================================================
Good morning dioxin activists...Welcome to the revolution...the
information revolution, that is.
The pulp and paper industry has launched a slick Internet campaign
to convince the world that chlorine dioxide bleaching has "solved
the riddle of dioxin."
The AET (Alliance for Environmental Technologies) has set-up a WWW
site (http://aet.org) presenting their case that bleaching with
chlorine dioxide represents the paper and chemical industry's
commitment to "improving environmental performance."
The WWW site is communicates clear and effective messages and has
received over 2800 visitors to date.
In the attached news release, the P&P industry announces a new
report and their updates on the IJC meeting this weekend in
Duluth.

INTERNET SITE FOR PULP, PAPER ISSUES PROVIDES
DAILY UPDATES ON GREAT LAKES CONFERENCE
<Site includes up-to-the-minute news from the 8th Biennial Meeting
of the International Joint Commission Conference on Great Lakes
Water Quality>
(September 23, 1995 -- Duluth, MN) - Hundreds of activists,
journalists, regulators, lawmakers, and other environmental
professionals will meet in Duluth for the 8th Biennial Meeting of
the International Joint Commission Conference on Great Lakes Water
Quality. For those unable to attend, the Alliance for
Environmental Technology (AET) Internet web site will provide
daily updates on key conference happenings.
At the IJC Conference, AET will present a new report entitled,
"Five Great Reasons Why We Care: The Pulp and Paper Industry's
Virtual Elimination Strategy." The report details the success the
industry has achieved in preventing pollution by developing new
methods to bleach pulp and paper. Key to this strategy has been
the adoption of an innovative bleaching process called Elemental
Chlorine-Free (ECF).
"ECF has solved the riddle of dioxin," said AET's Executive
Director Doug Pryke. "This innovation has been so successful that
it will form the basis for upcoming U.S. EPA regulations. In
addition, ECF is certain to play a key role in the industry's
future environmental progress."
The full AET report and an executive summary are available on the
AET web site. In addition, daily updates on events as they occur
will be posted on a special section of this web site, linked from
the home page by using the "new" icon. The Internet address for
AET is http://aet.org.
