Hi Jackie:
I talked to Joy yesterday. She wants to go to the hearing and is
looking for funds. She has just gotten a new computer and is
about to get her modem running (lightning strike) and should be
reachable at hope@igc.org.
Meanwhile, I forwarded the new Rachael to co-workers here at
Florida DEP and Jim Bussey responded with great concern about a
western Plam Beach County site called "Chem Air Spray". Dioxin
levels in the soil are 1,000 ppm.
He wanted to know what cleanup levels were. I told him there was
no safe level and he wants to pass info up the chain. He says the
workers are cleaning up the site by diging up the soil with a
backhoe and filling drums with no decontamination of equipment.
Maybe one of the things the next conference could address is
getting the word out to state agencies like this one.
EPA has lead on this site.
See Prime Time last night? It opened with the Champion plant in
North Carolina and the 40 mile downstream Hartford, NC, which has
incredibly high cancer incidents. I loved it when that movie star
said, "Does it sound like this is an acceptable risk for these
families?" I wonder if clips are available.
