Here's what I know: The "Hearing Charter" says "The purpose of the hearing
is to receive testimony from EPA and PUBLIC [my emphasis] witnesses to
determine how EPA reached its conclusions, whether sound science is being
distorted to preconcieved policy ends, and the potential ECONOMIC [my
emphasis again] impact of future mandates based on this reassessment. The
hearing will also seek to determine how the provisions of the Risk
Assessment and Communications Act of 1995 (Title III of the H.R. 9, the Job
Creation and Wage Enhancement Act of 1995) would affect the process, and
will explore a number of issues, including the following:
* Is EPA's risk characterization of dioxin exposure, contained in Chapter 9
of its report, consistent with the scientific findings contained in the
earlier chapters?
* Did EPA pick and choose from contradictory evidence contained in health
studies to reach a preordained conclusion?
* Why was Chapter 9, the risk characterization chapter, written in-house
and not peer-reviewed, while the rest of the report was written outside the
Agency?
* Is EPA's risk characterization of harm to humans from low levels of
dioxin based only on high levels of exposure to animals, as some have
charged?
* What is the potential economic impact to the public [they mean
corporations] from regulations that may be based on this reassessment?
* Did EPA's expenditure of approximately $2 million over 4 years to conduct
this reassessment harm other scientific studies of other serious
environmental problems?"

Is that scary enough for you? I'm sure there's even more frightening stuff
I DON"T know, but it should give you more info.
