Re: Looking for "Sanitary Protection Scandal"

Yes, as far as I know, WEN does still exist in the U.K. I have been
connected w/ WEN USA, but here the organization is sort of in a coma--hard
to get folks to commit to being involved for the long haul. The address I
have for WEN UK is: 287 City Road, London, EC1V 1LA. I don't know what
happened to my copy of the book; I just have A TISSUE OF LIES, a WEN book
about the British paper industry. You could try to get one through
inter-library loan, perhaps.

If you're looking for a comparable book which is excellent and pertains to
the N. American menstrual products industry, there's one by Liz Armstrong
and Adrienne Scott that's called WHITEWASH. You can get it for $12.95 +
S&H from the WEED Foundation in Canada: 736 Bathurst St. Toronto, ONT M5S
2R4. Phone: 416-516-2600. Another interesting and somewhat related to
menstrual products (definitely related to dioxin) is SOAP OPERA, by Alica
Swazy (I'm not sure if I'm spelling her last name right). It's the history
of Procter & Gamble, w/ emphasis on their mill in Perry, FL, which has
destroyed the Fenholloway River. An enlightening but terrifying book about
the lengths to which some companies will go out of greed and paranoia.

If you have questions about menstrual products, I can try to help you out.
